Is the Canon EOS M5 the mirrorless compact interchangeable-lens camera Canon fans have been waiting for? Its predecessors, most recently the 24MP M3 and 18MP M10, were boxy affairs that didn’t generate a lot of excitement.
24.2 MP CMOS (APS-C) sensor
At the heart of the EOS M5 is a powerful 24.2MP CMOS sensor that enables it to capture large, high-resolution photos and videos. Whether you are a professional photographer or videographer, or simply an enthusiastic hobbyist, the M5’s APS-C sensor will help you create the most professional, high-quality images and full HD 1080p movies. The large APS-C sensor, coupled with a flexible ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 25600, also enables this mirrorless camera to perform incredibly well in a variety of lighting conditions, including certain low-light situations.

To deliver fast and efficient performance, the Canon M5 camera features the powerful DIGIC 7 Image Processor, which promotes low-light performance, noise reduction, fast continuous shooting at up to 9fps, and shorter interval times between frames for more efficient HD video shooting.
In addition to stellar image capture, the EOS M5 can take crisp, clear, high-definition video in 1080p full HD at 50fps and 60fps frame rates. The M5 can record videos up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds in length and are saved in the MP4 format, which is a conveniently small file size to allow for quick and easy downloading and sharing. Videos are also recorded with clear stereo sound for high-quality audio.
For more creative control when shooting movies, this Canon mirrorless camera features a Manual Movie Mode to allow you to adjust certain settings or select preferred focus points from the LCD screen.
Intuitive touch screen
The Canon EOS M5 is equipped with a large 3.2-inch LCD touch screen monitor that can be used for many operations. This 1.62m-dot screen lets you select and control focus points, navigate camera menus, and review photos or videos with ease. It can also be tilted up (85°) or down (180°) to allow for greater freedom when composing photos at different angles.
Bluetooth®
With built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with NFC, the EOS M5 gives you plenty of options for quick and easy wireless sharing of photos and videos. The Bluetooth capability also allows you to remotely control the camera from a compatible smartphone or tablet. With Bluetooth connectivity, you can use a paired mobile device to perform camera operations such as shooting photos and videos or initiating media playback on a big screen TV without having to touch your camera.
High-speed continuous shooting
Thanks to its powerful DIGIC 7 Image Processor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF feature, this Canon EOS mirrorless camera is well equipped to shoot fast-paced action while keeping your subject in perfect focus. The M5 can shoot up to 7fps (up to 9fps with AF Lock) and track moving subjects to ensure accurate focus at all times.
For shooting video clips, the camera features a Movie Servo AF Mode to allow for smooth and natural focusing while capturing video. It allows you to maintain focus naturally even as you change from different subjects and scenes, different distances, and more. This mode also allows you to specify the focusing system’s tracking sensitivity, choose AF speed, or select Face Tracking priority.
